Manchester United have held talks with Getafe over extending Mason Greenwood's loan deal with the Spanish side, a report has revealed.

Greenwood joined Getafe on a 12-month deal last summer after charges of rape and assault against him were dropped, and he has enjoyed his time in Spain to the tune of ten goals and six assists in 32 appearances.

His loan deal does not include a permanent transfer clause but Getafe, who sealed a 20% sell-on clause in exchange for taking a risk on Greenwood, have openly admitted their desire to bring the 22-year-old back next year.

According to The Athletic, talks have been held over another loan deal which would see Greenwood remain with Getafe for the 2024/25 campaign.

As it stands, United would prefer a permanent sale, but there is a belief that Getafe will not pursue such a move.

United will look to sell Greenwood elsewhere but if there are no buyers for the one-time England international, then sending him away on another loan to Getafe could become a possibility.

The idea of bringing Greenwood back into the United squad has not yet been formally ruled out either, with new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe prepared to give further consideration to the situation at the end of the season.

Greenwood's United contract runs until the summer of 2025 but the Red Devils do have the option to extend that by a further 12 months - something they would likely do if Greenwood was to depart on loan next season.

His impressive form in La Liga has seen Greenwood attract interest from a handful of other La Liga sides and United will entertain all interest in a permanent sale before talks over another loan exit will be held.
