Manchester United intend to sell Mason Greenwood on a permanent basis if they receive an acceptable fee.

Greenwood has spent the season on loan with Getafe after United decided 'it would be most appropriate for him' to continue his career away from Old Trafford.

After a spell away from the pitch, Greenwood has got back up to speed in Spain and he's contributed 10 goals and six assists in 32 appearances in all competitions.

Getafe have been delighted with their loan signing of Greenwood and their manager, Jose Bordalas, has praised the forward in media appearances during the campaign.

Bordalas has indicated Getafe would take Greenwood on loan again next season, but the Spanish club's president claimed on Tuesday that United desire a permanent sale.

Getafe president Angel Torres told Radio MARCA about Greenwood: "If it depended on the boy, his parents and the club [Getafe], I think he would continue another year here.

"But Manchester United’s idea is to sell if there is a good offer, so we will have to wait. But I hope he is going to stay."

Torres clarified Getafe hadn't received contact from Atletico Madrid over Greenwood, but he did reveal Barcelona had expressed an interest. He continued: "Atletico has not asked me about Greenwood, I spoke with [Atletico CEO] Miguel Angel about other things.

"The only one who has asked me has been [Barca president] Joan Laporta when he was here. I spoke with him and with [sporting director] Deco and they asked me what he was like to get a sense of the player. But first they have to sell, that is the problem of Spanish football."

Greenwood is under contract at United until 2025 and the club has the option of an additional year, but his loan is about to expire and a decision on his future looms.

In February, Sir Jim Ratcliffe spoke about Greenwood when speaking to journalists in London and the United co-owner appeared to leave the door open for his return.

When specifically asked if he was not closing the door on a return for Greenwood, Ratcliffe replied: "Well, he's a Manchester United footballer, we're in charge of football, so the answer is yeah, we have to make a decision, it's quite clear.

"There is no decision that's been made. He's on loan, obviously. We've got one or two footballers we have to deal with that are on our books and we need to make a decision, we'll do that.

"But the process will be understand the facts, not the hype, and then try and come to a fair decision on the basis of advice, which basically is he a good guy or not? Could he play sincerely for Manchester United well and we'd be comfortable with it and the fans would be comfortable with it?"
