Manchester United’s defeat by Crystal Palace on Monday night was a new low for Erik ten Hag’s side. It was not only the 4-0 scoreline that was so damaging but the limp display from players with loftier reputations — and wage packets — than their counterparts, and even Ten Hag described it as his “worst defeat” as the United manager.

Of course, this is not the first time United have foundered since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, with Ten Hag the fifth permanent manager to take on the task of succeeding him. Here we take a look at ten of the worst performances in that time.
