Former Manchester United captain Ashley Young has an all-new role for 2024.

Ashley Young has been a figure in football for some time now after he burst onto the scene with Watford in the early 2000s. His fantastic ability attracted the attention of Aston Villa, and then ultimately Manchester United who snapped him up in 2011 for £17 million.

He was a fabulous servant for the Red Devils, spending nine long years at Old Trafford and serving under many managers in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era, including David Moyes and Louis van Gaal. His loyalty was even rewarded with the captain’s armband around Carrington.

But all good things must come to an end, and Young was sold to Inter Milan of all places in 2020, ending his tenure at United.

He now resides at Premier League side Everton but is looking to try his hat at something a little bit different this summer.

Ashley Young signs for talkSPORT

After a successful punditry debut covering Crystal Palace vs Manchester United on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, Young is now set to join talkSPORT to cover Euro 2024.

He took to Twitter/X to state the following: ‘I’m delighted to be joining the @talkSPORT team for the Euros this summer! Having been at the tournament as a player I’m buzzing to be lining up in a new role. Surely it’s our time! Come on England.’

The ex-England star has swapped the ball for a microphone and will provide extensive coverage on talkSPORT alongside the likes of Gabby Agbonlahor and Darren Bent in the summer.

Ashley Young following in the footsteps of Manchester United legends

Young follows in the footsteps of Manchester United legends such as Gary Neville, Roy Keane and Paul Scholes by taking a route into punditry.

Most recently, Manchester United’s all-time record-leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney is testing his punditry skills out, after a stint of unsuccessful managerial roles.

If Young is as good as he was on MNF, he’ll have no problem with this line of work for years to come.
