United prepare to go toe-to-toe with Villa for £8m La Liga star who can bolster depleted position

Manchester United must look to significantly bolster their squad this summer following a season derailed by such a debilitating injury crisis.

The one area of the squad that’s undoubtedly suffered the most is the backline, with every player except Diogo Dalot missing at least one game through fitness complaints.

Some members of the team have endured absolutely torrid luck on the injury front; Tyrell Malacia has missed the entirety of his sophomore Red Devils campaign due to a knee injury he sustained on the final day of the 2022/2023 Premier League term, while Luke Shaw, who often struggles to maintain a consistent run of availability, has been absent for 33 matches in total across all competitions.

When fit, Shaw is undoubtedly one of the most reliable left-backs in Europe, hence why he’s always been a mainstay in the England squad. But fans have frequently voiced their concerns over his susceptibility to injuries, and this season has only added to such worries ten-fold.

As such, United are seemingly in the market for a player who can bolster his position from 2024/2025, but given that he’s first-choice and Malacia impressed in his maiden campaign, the board are unwilling to fork out a pricey fee for a new signing.

Reds target La Liga fullback but face PL competition

Birmingham Mail has relayed The Sun’s report over United’s interest in Atletico Madrid fullback Reinildo, as he is expected to be available for around £8 million in the forthcoming transfer window.

The 30-year-old would provide experience and depth for a fairly risk-free fee, making it no surprise that Aston Villa have also begun targeting him ahead of the summer.
