Ally McCoist and Martin O’Neill both made same point about Man Utd’s biggest problem vs Nottingham Forest, it’s clear as day

TNT Sports pundits Ally McCoist and Martin O’Neill were both on the same wavelength over Manchester United’s performance against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening.

The Red Devils were in action for the first time in the Premier League since the end of the March international break and Manchester United travelled to City Ground.

However, Ruben Amorim’s men walked away without a single Premier League point after Nottingham Forest inflicted a 1-0 win over United on Tuesday evening.

Anthony Elanga opened the scoring – and ultimately found the winner – with a stunning solo effort inside the opening 10 minutes of the contest.

United failed to bounce back against Forest and the Red Devils’ Premier League woes continued heading towards the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

The Red Devils languish in 13th place in the Premier League table and Ruben Amorim’s side are 12 points adrift from fourth-place Chelsea.

United have only managed 10 wins in 30 Premier League matches this season and the Red Devils have eight league fixtures remaining in their 2024-25 campaign.

The Red Devils are on course for their worst finish in the Premier League era and their best hope of European football relies on their Europa League campaign.

What Ally McCoist and Martin O’Neill noticed about Man Utd’s Premier League performance vs Nottingham Forest

Speaking on TNT Sports, Martin O’Neill was deeply critical of Manchester United’s lack of threat against Nottingham Forest in their Premier League match.

The 73-year-old former Republic of Ireland manager also took aim at Patrick Dorgu, who struggled to impress with his display at City Ground on Tuesday evening.

“Man Utd don’t posses enough threat in their team,” O’Neill said.

“It’s as simple as that. They had Patrick Dorgu playing tonight and I could have done what he did.”

Ally McCoist, much like TNT Sports pundit O’Neill, felt that United lacked the essential creativity needed to pull back an equaliser against Forest.

“Anthony Elanga, what a goal to win a game of football,” he said, as per BBC Sport.

“From then on, there was never a dull moment. United, I thought they played well, but they didn’t create enough.”

Ruben Amorim recognises the real problem that Man Utd had with their Premier League performance vs Nottingham Forest

Speaking to BBC’s Match of the Day, United manager Ruben Amorim admitted that the Red Devils needed to “improve” their attacking output in the final third.

“We suffered that first goal and it helped the opponent to play the game they want,” he said.

“We have quality in the last third, but we tried everything to score a goal and we didn’t score, and we lose three points.

“We were so near the [Forest] box, but we lacked quality in the final third.

“We have to improve and we are pushing the opponent more to their half, now we have to improve in the final third.

“They have a lot of men [behind the ball] and it was hard to make a connection to get inside the box.

“It is always frustrating when you don’t win. Especially when you look at [the] game, we deserve more than losing the game.

“Today, we push the maximum that we can. We were so near the goal, especially in the end.”

United will now host Manchester City in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, with kick-off slated for 4:30pm UK time.
