Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap continues to be linked with a move away from the Premier League strugglers.

The 22-year-old has scored 12 goals in 30 league games for the Tractor Boys this season and could be set for a summer move with his side looking like they will be relegated in the coming weeks. football.london understands Chelsea are one of the clubs sniffing around Delap, with a move even considered in the January transfer window.

Chelsea knew any deal midway through the season would be difficult, however, and Delap is among a handful of strikers admired by the Blues as we approach the summer window. The likes of Victor Osimhen and Benjamin Sesko are also liked by the west Londoners.

Delap, who worked with Enzo Maresca during the Italian's time at Manchester City, has many admirers in the Premier League, including Manchester United, Everton and Newcastle. But where should the Englishman head should he leave Ipswich this summer? football.london's writers have their say, below.

Sam Truelove

Liam Delap could be available for around £40million if Ipswich are relegated at the end of the season. Capable of holding the ball up, linking with others and putting the ball in the back of the net, Delap looks to have a bright future in football.

He's obviously a good player right now but is he the type of striker Chelsea need? In Nicolas Jackson they already have a raw talent still learning his trade. Do they need another?

If I were Enzo Maresca, I would prefer Chelsea to sign one of Victor Osimhen or Viktor Gyokeres. A proven goalscorer who is already developed and in their prime. Chelsea need a striker for the here and now, not the future.

I can see arguments for and against signing Delap in the summer. For: Delap is a young, hungry striker who has earned a big move this summer. Against: he is not quite the prolific centre-forward a lot of Chelsea supporters are crying out for.

However, with Nicolas Jackson continuing to impress in his development, albeit he could add more goals to his game, I'm very much of the viewpoint that you do want to hamper him too much. If you were to sign Gyokeres, Sesko or Osimhen, then where does that leave Jackson? His all-round play is improving all the time and it feels like once he explodes in front of goal, then Chelsea fans could see something really special.

Delap is the perfect option for the Blues if they are to keep their trust in Jackson. He is not someone who is going to push the Senegalese striker out of the line-up, not straight away anyway. Instead, he will provide an option to cover Jackson whenever he needs a rest and also provide stern competition.

He looks as if he will be available for cheap this summer, so there is that too. Maresca of course already knows what Delap can offer on and off the ball. I think it makes sense - although I know a lot of Blues fans will disagree with me.

Joe Doyle

I can definitely see why Chelsea would want to sign Delap. He's a good young striker who is still developing and proving he can cut it in the Premier League - not something everyone can do at the age of 22.

But there are issues with this move. For one, he's not the prolific striker that Chelsea need to start challenging for the top trophies. At least, he isn't that yet. He'll also want to be first choice to continue his development after a year of cutting his teeth at Ipswich - will Chelsea be able to offer that? It's unlikely with Nicolas Jackson there and interest in the likes of Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres.

And finally, while the £40million fee quoted in reports sounds good, if there are more teams looking to sign him it could turn into a bidding war.

That being said, if they could get a deal done for that price, I think it's probably too good to turn down. Even if it doesn't work out, at the very least they'll probably still be able to make their money back in a couple of years.
