Manchester United will reportedly consider allowing outcast Antony to join Real Betis on loan for another season. The Brazilian has impressed in Spain since sealing a temporary departure from his Old Trafford woes in January.

United are desperate to raise funds for a summer transfer overhaul. Several players who are unlikely to feature in Ruben Amorim’s long-term plans will be sold. Antony is one of the players linked with a permanent exit. However, it has been claimed that Betis are only prepared to loan him for another season. The Spanish side seem unlikely to be able to afford United’s asking price for the 25-year-old.

According to The Times, United would prefer to sell Antony permanently but each offer for the winger, including loans, will be assessed on merit. That raises the possibility that if United do not receive as much interest in a permanent deal for Antony as they would like, Betis could succeed in completing a loan deal for another season.

A scenario in which Antony does not permanently leave United could frustrate some members of the hierarchy and supporters. There is pressure inside the Old Trafford corridors to raise funds for the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils are not expected to breach Profit and Sustainability Rules but they are operating close to the threshold that permits clubs from losing £105million over a three-year period. Major spending cannot take place unless players leave.

A loan for Antony would see United miss out on a transfer fee for the former Ajax player, who only three years ago was an £86m purchase by the Premier League side. It is claimed that the club value him at around £40m.

The report adds that United are even set to miss out on a £500,000 bonus fee from Betis over Antony’s loan deal in the second half of the season. He has now met the threshold of 15 appearances for the La Liga club.

United inserted the clause during negotiations in January for fear that Antony would not play in as many matches as they would like. If he did not feature much for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, it would risk further reducing his transfer value.

Antony has scored four goals and provided four assists in 15 appearances for Betis. His United career saw him score 12 goals and register five assists in 96 games.
