Jamie Carragher says ‘people keep saying’ same seven-word point about Ruben Amorim at Man Utd, he fully disagrees

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher admitted that he does not agree with one thing that has been said about Ruben Amorim’s reign as Manchester United manager.

Ruben Amorim has been navigating a turbulent period at Old Trafford after the former Sporting CP boss arrived as Manchester United manager in 2024.

The 40-year-old United head coach took charge last November after Ruud van Nistelrooy left the Premier League club following his interim managerial spell.

Leicester City boss Ruud van Nistelrooy oversaw a four-match run as Red Devils interim manager after Erik ten Hag was sacked by United last October.

Erik ten Hag’s reign as United manager came to an end after a disastrous start to the 2024-25 campaign and Amorim has struggled to build momentum with the club.

United languish in 14th place in the Premier League table and the Red Devils are on course for their worst finish since the league’s inception back in 1992.

The Red Devils have won only 10 matches from 32 fixtures and United only have six Premier League matches remaining in their lacklustre 2024-25 season.

Jamie Carragher spotlights the same criticism made against Ruben Amorim as Man Utd manager after he replaced Erik ten Hag

Ruben Amorim could still secure European football and a route back to the Champions League for next season if Manchester United win the Europa League.

The Europa League is the last competition that United are in this season and it is Amorim’s only shot at lifting major silverware as manager before the season is out.

Amorim sent a clear-cut message about his approach from the moment he arrived at Old Trafford, including overhauling the Red Devils’ playing style this season.

The Red Devils manager enjoyed success with Sporting CP and Amorim implemented his tactical system at United and has remained firm on using it in every match.

United have shifted to a three-man backline and the Red Devils usually deploy in a 3-4-2-1 formation under former Sporting CP head coach Amorim.

Amorim has been met with criticism over his tactical system, but Jamie Carragher has insisted that the United manager’s approach is a key part of his “DNA.”

Speaking on Sky Sports (via Goal), Carragher: “It took a bit of time, obviously, for the system.

“People are still yet to be convinced by that, is that the right decision?

“Not actually from him, by the club for employing him because he came with that system, that’s his DNA. People keep saying, ‘Oh, he’s got to change the system.’”

Why Jamie Carragher does not agree with the comments aimed at Ruben Amorim over his Man Utd tactical system

Carragher insisted that Amorim will stick with his playing style and United should have explored another option if they wanted him to play another way.

“I don’t really see it like that because his whole managerial career and the success that he’s had has been based on that system, that’s what he knows,” he added.

“If he goes to something else, they might as well change the manager.”

United and Lyon will kick off in their second-leg Europa League quarter-final clash on Thursday evening at Old Trafford, with kick-off slated for 8pm UK time.
