Harry Maguire has had his Steve Bruce moment.

An epic late goal like the former Manchester United captain’s title-winning goals against Sheffield Wednesday in 1993, Harry Maguire’s goal against Lyon sent Old Trafford wild.

Harry Maguire scored a header in extra-time stoppage time, clinching a 5-4 win, 7-6 on aggregate.

How did Manchester United do it? Sheer will. Desire to keep going, aided by a vocal crowd, Ruben Amorim’s side somehow kept the season alive.

And Harry Maguire, playing as a temporary striker, was at the heart of it all.

Harry Maguire’s enjoyed his moment celebrating with his teammates and the crowd, enjoying an unbelievable moment.

He sent a message out on Instagram following Manchester United’s win, trying to put his winning goal and connection with the crowd into words.

“Wow. What a feeling. YOU REDS!!”, he wrote.

Maguire saw teammate Joshua Zirkzee post a series of fire emojis, showing his admiration for the centre-back.

Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay responded, leaving an applause emoji, and a face expressing his shock.

Manchester United’s memorable Old Trafford night

Manchester United’s win at Old Trafford was an unforgettable moment in a drab, unhappy season. And the goal booked a place in the Europa League semi-finals, keeping the season alive.

Ruben Amorim said he was inspired by great European nights of the past, when preparing for the quarter-final second leg.

He told club media: “I was watching again the ’99, the documentary [ so to have some inspiration for this moment. But, was a great night.

“I think the team were tired and you feel it during the game, and then 4-2 with one more player and, in the end, you think it’s over.

“But here, it’s never over.”
