Ruben Amorim has made it no secret that Manchester United’s full focus is on winning the Europa League, and now they are within touching distance of the trophy. Tottenham awaits the Red Devils in Bilbao in just a few weeks, and they will be keen to arrive in Spain fully refreshed and prepared for the task at hand.

Resting players will therefore be the priority for Amorim, and that could provide the ex-Sporting boss with the ideal opportunity to put some of his fringe stars to the test ahead of what promises to be a busy summer transfer window at Old Trafford.

Express Sport takes a look at who could be handed the chance to prove their worth at the Theatre of Dreams ahead of United’s major overhaul…

Altay Bayindir

Talk about Andre Onana has been rife in recent weeks and it is still unclear whether United will look to sign a new goalkeeper this summer. If they do, Amorim must decide on his new No. 2 – and Bayindir could still fit the bill. The Turkey international has not played regularly since joining the club but may be given the chance to show why he deserves consideration heading into next season.

Harry Amass

Amass’ long-term future at United is not in doubt by any stretch, but the 18-year-old has been tipped for a loan move this summer. With tough challenges against West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen and Chelsea’s Noni Madueke coming up, Amorim could gain a greater understanding of where Amass is in his development and whether he is capable of being a part of his squad next season.

Victor Lindelof

Defensive signings are expected this summer, but Lindelof has stepped up when required in the Europa League and if he can prove his fitness over the coming weeks, he would certainly give Amorim something to consider.

Kobbie Mainoo

With little at stake, there may not be a better chance for Amorim to see whether Mainoo truly fits into his 3-4-3 system. A run of games playing as one of his 8s could highlight whether this summer is the right time for the England international to be cashed in on for pure profit, or whether his profile can be shoehorned into the team.

Rasmus Hojlund

With a marquee striker being eyed, Hojlund may well only have until the end of the month to derail those plans and highlight why he is worth another show of faith. With Joshua Zirkzee sidelined, the Denmark international is likely to start in the Europa League final, but gaining momentum and confidence heading into that match will be crucial in the meantime.

Chido Obi

Like Amass, Obi is a long-term prospect. However, aged 17, a full season of regular minutes could accelerate his development further if loan offers arrive over the coming months. The two upcoming Premier League matches will be enough to see where his future could lie.
