Former Reading goalkeeper Mary Earps has retired from international duty ahead of the European Championships.

Earps, who plays for Paris Saint Germain in France, made 34 appearances for the Royals between 2016 and 2018 before moving to Wolfsburg in Germany.

A Manchester United great, the 32-year-old won the FA Cup in 2023 and made over a century of appearances for the Red Devils before departing in 2024.

On the international stage, Earps made her debut in 2017 and earned 53 caps, winning the European Championships in 2022 and the 2023 Women's Finalissima, as well as reaching the World Cup final.

Winning the FIFA Best Goalkeeper Award in both 2022 and 2023, she has hung up for international boots just five weeks before Sarina Wiegman's side look to defend their European Championship crowd.

"My journey has never been the simplest, so in true Mary fashion, this isn't a simple goodbye - right before a major tournament," she posted on Instagram.

"Nonetheless, I know this is the right decision. There are so many dimensions to this decision, the details of which aren't important right now.

"This is a new era and a new England team, and I'm looking forward to watching them this summer.

"I know that while this won't make sense to some who are reading this, you can trust that I would not be doing this unless I thought it was absolutely the right thing to do, as much as it hurts."
