Barcelona president Joan Laporta will reportedly try to send goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen to Manchester United this summer. The Catalan club chief is on a mission to free up space on the wage bill as they prepare to welcome new stopper Joan Garcia from Espanyol.

Barca have already agreed terms with Garcia and they are reportedly set to pay his £21million release clause imminently. The 24-year-old wants to be immediately instated at the club's new No. 1, which threatens to leave captain Ter Stegen out in the cold. And with wages in excess of £100,000 a week, La Blaugrana cannot afford to have him collecting dust on the sidelines.

According to OK Diario, United 'love' Ter Stegen and Laporta is keen to make the deal happen. The Red Devils have spent the early stages of the summer window chasing attacking targets, but they could replace error-prone keeper Andre Onana before the start of next season.

Onana committed a number of costly mistakes last term, compelling Ruben Amorim to take him out of the limelight. With back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir also failing to impress, United have been tipped to wade into the market.

And there aren't many out there with a more impressive CV than Ter Stegen's. The German international joined Barcelona from Borussia Monchengladbach at the age of 22, and he has racked up more than 400 appearances since.

With six La Liga titles and a Champions League crown among his many accolades, the 33-year-old would immediately become one of the most decorated players in Amorim's squad. But he has seemingly lost his way at Barca after spending the majority of last season sidelined by a knee injury.

After spluttering to a 15th-place Premier League finish, United's summer rebuild is already well underway. The club have confirmed the £62.5million signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo could soon follow him through the door.

Amorim received another huge boost this week as reports indicate that United skipper Bruno Fernandes has turned down a lucrative approach from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. The Portuguese indicated last month that he would be prepared to leave if Old Trafford chiefs decided it would be best for all parties.

"If the club thinks it's time to part ways because they want to do some cashing in or whatever, it's what it is," he said after the Europa League final defeat. "Football sometimes is like this. I've always said I will be here until the club says to me that it's time to go."
