Simon Jordan makes worrying Bryan Mbeumo to Man United claim

Manchester United are looking to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford this summer, but Simon Jordan has his doubts about the transfer.

Ruben Amorim is expected to remain at United, despite a dismal first seven months in the dugout at Old Trafford, and is set for a full rebuild this summer.

The Red Devils fell to their worst ever Premier League finish last season, ending up 15th in the table, on just 42 points.

To make matters worse, United were beaten by Tottenham in the Europa League final, ensuring it was a trophyless campaign for the 20-time English champions.

Mbeumo and Cunha not good enough

Man United have already confirmed the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves, after the Brazilian scored 15 goals in the Premier League last season.

Amorim’s side are also close to another purchase, after Brentford winger Mbeumo confirmed that he wants to join United, and talks between the two clubs have begun.

However, speaking live on talkSPORT (4 June), former Crystal Palace owner Jordan questioned whether Mbuemo and Cunha are what the Red Devils need to get back to their best, saying: “Do these feel like Manchester United signings?

“With all due respect, and they are good players, but these don’t strike me as top four players.

“Maybe in a top four side, they would be top four players, but Man United aren’t a top four side at the moment.”

Man United have done well to secure signings

Football Insider Verdict

If any other club had a season without any major silverware, as well as finishing in the lower regions of the Premier League table, they would certainly be struggling to bring in any top talent.

However, thanks to their status and past achievements, Man United have a certain pull about them, which allows them to bring in quality players regardless of their form and league position.

Despite this, signings like Cunha and Mbeumo are the absolute best that Amorim could hope for, and to even complete these deals given the current environment is quite the coup.

Nobody is under the impression that the aforementioned pair are in the top five or even ten players in the Premier League, but they are a vast improvement on what the Red Devils currently have.

If Amorim can implement his style of play and continue to add talent to his squad, then he will at least have a chance of turning things around at Old Trafford.
