Anthony Martial scored the 100th goal of his career as he helped Manchester United to victory over Omonia Nicosia on Thursday night.

Martial scored in the second half with a well-taken strike, which was his 100th goal for club and country. The forward now has three goals in just two games after scoring a brace from the bench in United's defeat against Manchester City at the weekend.

The 26-year-old struggled on loan at Sevilla last term, but Erik ten Hag was impressed by his performances in pre-season on tour in Thailand and Australia and the Dutchman made it clear he would have an important role to play in the squad.

Although Martial has been sidelined for the majority of this season with an Achilles injury, he has made a full recovery from that issue and he's seized his opportunities from the bench against City and Omonia by scoring three goals in those matches.

Ten Hag praised Martial after defeating Omonia on Thursday: "We have already seen [Martial's quality] in pre-season, it was really disappointing when he got injured against Atletico Madrid, so we missed him in the first couple of weeks. It had an impact on our team's performance."

Martial arrived at United in 2015 for an initial fee of £36million from Monaco and he scored on his club debut against Liverpool.

The forward has scored a total of 82 goals in his 272 appearances for United and he is contracted until 2024.
