Erik ten Hag clearly angry at two Man Utd players in Omonia Europa League win

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag guided his side to a 3-2 Europa League win over Omonia on Thursday night.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial came to Manchester United’s rescue on Thursday night as they battled their way past Omonia. However, for Tyrell Malacia and Jadon Sancho, it was certainly a night to forget. And the fact the duo were hooked at half time suggests Erik ten Hag clearly isn’t happy with the pair, especially given their drab displays came just days after their poor performances in Sunday’s 6-3 defeat to Manchester City.

Manchester United had gone into the game with Omonia with many excepting them to blow their opponents away.

But they fell behind in the first half via Karim Ansarifard, with the former Nottingham Forest star firing past David De Gea to spark wild celebrations in the hold end.

After the break, however, the game changed.

Bruno Fernandes supplied a wonderful pass for Rashford, with the England international then finishing smartly to level proceedings.

Martial them came off the bench to net, with the France international scoring his third goal of the season in the process.

And Rashford struck again in the closing stages to make the game safe, though Nikolas Panayiotou then struck to force a frantic finale at the death.

For United, it wasn’t a vintage display.

Ten Hag’s side were poor for the most part, only emerging victorious after the Dutchman decided to roll the dice and go for the jugular.

And it’s clear the 52-year-old was seething with Malacia and Sancho, with the pair both hooked at half-time as United chased a way back into the game.

Malacia has been a regular in the side ever since the 4-0 defeat to Brentford, where Luke Shaw experienced a chastening afternoon.

But the Netherlands international has been poor in the last two matches, with his flat display coming just days after a disaster class against City at the Etihad.

Malacia has huge potential, as his performances since joining have proved.

Yet the fact he’s now been substituted at the interval for the second game in a row suggests he’s not living up to Ten Hag’s huge expectations.

Shaw did well after coming on, so it means the England international is looking increasingly likely to start Sunday’s crunch showdown with Everton.

And Sancho was equally abysmal, too.

On his day, the former Borussia Dortmund star can be one of the best players in the whole of world football.

But Sancho was dire against City and, against Omonia, did precious little of note before being taken off at half time.

Sancho has been a mainstay in the United team in the short time since Ten Hag’s appointment, regardless of his form.

Yet it looks more and more likely that, soon enough, the former Manchester City academy graduate will find himself on the bench.

Rashford and Martial are unplayable at present and both warrant selection from the start.

And Cristiano Ronaldo, while he didn’t score, resembled more of a team player than previously seen as United battled their way to victory.

Speaking after the win over Omonia, meanwhile, Ten Hag opened up on what he told the players at half time to spark a second half turnaround.

"More runs, we are too static, we have to make the opposition move to get behind - that is why we made two subs,” he said.

“The subs really had an impact today.”

And he also lauded Martial by saying: "We have already seen in pre-season, it was really disappointing when he got injured, it had an impact on our team's performance.

"It has to only be a warm up, on Sunday we have to react."
