Cristiano Ronaldo missed some golden opportunities in Manchester United's Europa League victory on Thursday evening and his reaction was tough to watch.

The Portuguese icon hasn't had the easiest time of it so far this season.

He's mainly been restricted to short cameos off the bench under new boss Erik ten Hag.

Something which a player of his standing in the game is certainly not used to.

However, having been granted the opportunity to play the full 90 minutes against Omania, the stage was set for Ronaldo to finally have something to celebrate again by scoring his 700th career goal.

Unfortunately, it wasn't to be. United went behind on the night and couldn't find their feet in the first half, going into the breaking trailing 1-0.

And despite turning things around thanks to goals from Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford (2), Ronaldo couldn't get his historic goal.

Although, it wasn't like he didn't have opportunities.

The best of his chances came in the 77th minute, when he sent a shot into a near open goal cannoning back off the post from six yards out.

It really was a golden opportunity.

A moment which captured Ronaldo's frustrations perfectly has been circulating on Twitter and it's actually tough to watch for all of us Ronaldo fans.

Check it out below.

WATCH: Ronaldo's outburst of frustration

We feel you, Cristiano. Everybody outside of Cyprus surely wanted Ronaldo to score his 700th goal on Thursday after everything he's been through personally over the last few months.

So far this season, he's managed just the one goal for United which came from the penalty spot against FC Sheriff in September.

An uncharacteristically low return for someone so prolific as the United man.

He'll be desperate to put things right as the season progresses and hopefully earn some more gametime under Ten Hag.
