England international now open to joining Newcastle, PL club want pricey £40m fee

The Manchester Evening News claim Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is open to joining Newcastle this summer. Erik Ten Hag’s newly-inherited side want as much as £40million – but a loan exit is more likely.

Henderson, 25, has endured a dismal campaign in which he has been firmly planted behind David De Gea as his no.2. The England international has played just three times for United, forced to even get minutes with the 23’s.

Newcastle have a long-standing interest in Henderson. Eddie Howe is backing a move for the ex-Sheffield United loanee. Now, in a boost to the Toon, Henderson is open to a move to Tyneside in the coming weeks.

The report states that Manchester United are willing to cash in on the goalkeeper for £40million. However, a loan is much more likely, as Henderson has three years left to run on his £110,000-a-week (MEN) deal.

Henderson open to £40m Newcastle move: Upgrade on Dubravka?

It is perhaps harsh on Martin Dubravka, who has done very little wrong between the sticks of late. While his form might have dipped since his wonderful start to life on Tyneside, he has been a reliable shot-stopper.

However, Newcastle are growing and they cannot have sympathy with their longer-serving players. If they are to climb and challenge for Europe next season, they need signings such as Henderson to give them a chance.

Henderson, on a loan-to-buy deal, with perhaps a loan fee up top that takes the edge off next summer, would be ideal. There should be some room for movement in terms of the price, too.
