Manchester United will need to spend €60m if they wish to sign Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan but have made ‘soundings’ in recent months.

That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who say the Italian side are open to a sale to fund further investment in their own squad.

The newspaper say that that Inter are planning a ‘physiological makeover’ between January and June next year with only a few of the expiring contracts set to be renewed.

The club are already planning ahead for that eventuality but have to take into consideration an edict from those in charge to lower the costs and proceed with ‘self-financing’.

In other words, players can only be brought in if there are ‘excellent disposals’ first and Dumfries is the one at the top of the list.

He is ‘very popular’ in England and Manchester United already made ‘soundings’ regarding him in the past few months.

They’re on the hunt for a new right-back as Aaron Wan Bissaka hasn’t featured under Erik ten Hag this season and doubts remain about Diogo Dalot, who has been first choice under the Dutchman.

Dumfries has been named as a player they are looking at and Inter are open to the sale if they can secure the right price. They value their man at €60m and won’t accept a Euro less than that figure.

They’ve made it clear that is the figure, which is needed from anyone, including Manchester United, should they wish to sit at the negotiation table and work out a deal.

Whether that’s a figure United are willing to pay remains to be seen but the terms have been set and Inter’s willingness to talk means Dumfries is a name to keep an eye on in the coming months.
