Manchester United youngster Hannibal Mejbri nearly sparks unsavoury scenes by throwing ball at Australia striker Mitchell Duke’s face during Tunisia’s World Cup defeat

Hannibal Mejbri was close to sparking unsavoury scenes when he threw a ball at Australia's Mitchell Duke.

The 19-year-old wasn't even on the pitch, but clearly wanted to get involved in the action for Tunisia during their second match at the World Cup.

Duke netted the only goal in Australia's 1-0 win on Saturday, with the victory seeing them jump into second in Group D.

However, the 31-year-old would soon take a knock to the face from one of the opposition players.

With the striker lying on the floor after he challenged for a header, Hannibal threw a ball at the Australian.

It hit Duke's face and caused him to flinch, and he made his way to the bench to have a stern word with the youngster after the incident.

However, Hannibal appeared to apologise to the forward and he escaped without a booking from the referee.

Despite his efforts off it, the youngster wasn't able to make a difference on the pitch as he remained an unused substitute in Tunisia's loss.

Australia were able to hold onto their slender lead at the Al Janoub Stadium, their first win at the World Cup since 2010.

The goal was also Duke's first for the Socceroos in the competition and he revealed his delight after the match during a heart-warming interview.

He said: “No words. I’m going to start crying because this is such a big moment for me and my family, my supporters, it’s the best feeling in the world.

“But, I’m trying not to get too caught up in it because the job is not done yet, we’ve got one more game to win and get out of the group.”

“Honestly the best moment of my life up to date in my football career," he added. “There’s no words mate, I’m just so happy and proud of the boys, we made so many sacrifices to get here. It’s the best feeling in the world.”

Tunisia now sit bottom of the group and face the mammoth task of beating France in their final game to stand any chance of qualifying for the round of 16.
