Premier League: Journalist Questions Why Manchester United Star Would Leave for PSG

Paris Saint-Germain has recently been linked to Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, whose contract expires next year. So the 24-year-old will have to decide whether to remain at Old Trafford or venture elsewhere.

While there are still months away until the summer transfer window, the football media speculates what Rashford could do. Manchester United currently finds itself fourth in the Premier League and fighting for a UEFA Champions League spot.

The Times’ Charlotte Duncker speculated why Rashford would consider leaving The Red Devils because of the project Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is building.

“So it’s good that he can just focus on what he’s doing and then turn his attentions to his future in the summer,” Duncker said on “Off the Ball.” “You’re right. With the PSG links, they do admire him and maybe he could look at that and use that as a way to get himself a better deal at Manchester United. But he’s come through the academy there.

“And if you’re Marcus Rashford and you see the work that Eric ten Hag is doing and the improvements that he’s made in such a small space base of time, and the fact that you’ve got a manager there saying he wants to build a team around you, then you’d look at that and think, well, this is my boyhood club. Have we got a chance of winning the Premier League in the next couple of years? Is the lure of PSG really worth leaving? So it’s one of them that he’s going to have to weigh up, but at the moment, Manchester United looks like the best place for him.”

If Manchester United fails to qualify for the Champions League, then perhaps Rashford might consider leaving Old Trafford, and PSG, under sporting advisor Luis Campos might present a project and contract that entices him.

Nonetheless, the final decision falls on Rashford and whether to remain with his boyhood club or if a lucrative offer from PSG is enough to get the England international to venture abroad.
