Harry Kane told he can ‘maximise his potential’ at Tottenham amid Manchester United transfer link as striker looks to eclipse club legend Jimmy Greaves’ record

Harry Kane has been told he can 'maximise his potential' at Tottenham amid speculation about his future at the club.

An historic moment awaits the striker ahead of Spurs' FA Cup clash at Preston on Saturday evening, live on talkSPORT, as he looks to become Tottenham's all-time leading goalscorer.

He went level with Jimmy Greaves when he fired in the winner during their Premier League triumph at Fulham on Monday night, scoring his 266th goal for Spurs - although Greaves does have two more goals which have not gone down in the official record books.

Kane's pursuit of the record threw up questions about the career path of the player, with many believing a move away from Tottenham is the best course of action for him to take if he wants to win major trophies.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte vowed to help Kane achieve that trophy goal, although there's even more uncertainty about the Italian's future at the club.

It's been reported that Kane is in talks to sign a new contract at Spurs, although the player has said there has not been a lot of talk between him and club.

The reports linking him with a move to Manchester United will continue to swirl but Liverpool legend John Barnes suggested there's no reason why Kane can't achieve if he stays at Spurs.

“The advice I’d give is he should go where he wants to go, where he can be happy, where he wants to play, where he feels he will maximise his potential," Barnes told talkSPORT.com with Freebets.com.
