Manchester United had reportedly earmarked a summer move to sign Aleksandar Mitrovic before the striker’s explosive red card earlier in the month in the FA Cup.

According to the Daily Star, the Serbian international was on Erik Ten Hag’s radar ahead of the upcoming transfer window, with Mitrovic seemingly one of United’s top striking targets. However, the 28-year-old’s ‘disaster’ at Old Trafford could throw a move into jeopardy.

Mitrovic was sent off having made physical contact with referee Chris Kavanagh, with the FA currently expected to suspend the Fulham captain for the remainder of the season, and it now appears that United could change their stance on signing the attacker.

As per the report, a move to Old Trafford could be in danger for Mitrovic after his actions in the FA Cup, and for Ten Hag, the Dutch manager could now be ready to move on to other targets in the market, with a striker a clear priority for the United boss.

Indeed, Mitrovic’s style would have been perfect for the Red Devils, with the Serbian’s personality also something that would have gone down a hit with the United faithful. Yet it would make sense why the Manchester giants are now against a move to sign the forward.

The incident at Old Trafford earlier this season was one of the most explosive in English football this season, with three Fulham figures being sent off in quick succession. And whilst Mitrovic’s actions were hardly Eric Cantona-levels, the striker’s actions should still be rightly punished.

Ten Hag is clearly on a mission to change the entire culture surrounding United, starting with the players in the squad as the Dutchman looks to offload a number of names in the summer, and in terms of signings, Mitrovic’s actions this month should rightly rule the striker out with a move to Manchester.

Whilst a suspension until the end of season might seem harsh for the 28-year-old, Ten Hag is smart enough to know what characters he wants in the dressing room, and the 12-goal Fulham simply doesn’t meet the criteria for what the Red Devils need in a striker this summer.
