Diogo Dalot pens five-year contract extension with Manchester United

Diogo Dalot has put pen to paper on a five-year contract extension with Manchester United.

The Portugal international has extended his stay at Old Trafford until 2028, with the club then having the option of extending by an additional year.

Dalot was signed by Jose Mourinho back in 2018 and has since gone on to make 107 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring three goals and assisting a further six in all competitions.

He has played a vital role under Erik ten Hag and was the first-choice right-back up until the World Cup last winter when he sustained an injury on international duty. Consequently, Aaron Wan-Bissaka was deployed in his absence and the Englishman’s revitalised form has seen the pair regularly rotated on the right flank.

The 24-year-old is one of numerous key players to sign new deals this season, including Luke Shaw and Alejandro Garnacho.

Dalot may be deployed this Saturday in the first-ever Manchester derby FA Cup final, so a quality performance to see in the new contract would work a treat.

Dalot reacts

After extending his career with England’s most successful team, Dalot said (via the Man Utd website): “Playing for Manchester United is one of the highest honours that you can have in football. We have shared some fantastic moments over the past five years, and I’ve grown so much and my passion for this incredible club has only increased since the day that I joined.

“As a group of players, we all feel like we are at the start of a special journey right now. I can assure you that I will dedicate myself relentlessly to helping this group to achieve our aims and make the fans proud of this team. That drive continues this week with everyone intensely focused on preparations for the FA Cup final.”
