Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have been joined by Manchester United in the race to acquire the services of Sporting CP star Manuel Ugarte, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola (h/t Express).

Mauricio Pochettino, who was recently appointed Chelsea manager, has also given the green light for the Blues to pursue the Uruguay international.

As things stand, the 22-year-old prefers a move to the Stamford Bridge side over the Ligue 1 outfit. However, it remains to be seen what the inclusion of the Red Devils does. Apart from the aforementioned teams, the midfielder has also been linked with Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.

Ugarte signed for Sporting in the summer of 2021. In the previous campaign, the youngster was mostly a backup player at the Primeira Liga outfit.

However, the Uruguayan has established himself in Ruben Amorim’s starting XI this season. In the current campaign, the 22-year-old has made 47 appearances in all competitions for the Portuguese outfit in the number six role.

PSG made several additions to their midfield last summer. The Parc des Princes side signed Vitinha, Renato Sanches, Fabian Ruiz and Carlos Soler. They also have the likes of Marco Verratti and Danilo Pereira in their ranks.

As for United, Casemiro’s arrival from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 has added much-needed quality to our engine room. The Brazilian has been a key figure in Erik ten Hag’s plans.

However, the Red Devils seemingly lack depth in the middle of the park. Marcel Sabitzer is set to return to Bayern Munich after joining us on loan in January. On the other hand, Fred has also been linked with a move to Fulham.

We evidently do not have adequate cover for Casemiro, 31, in the squad. Ugarte looks like a decent option to add cover for the Brazilian in the team. But will the Old Trafford side make a move for the Uruguayan? Only time will tell.
