Former Manchester United legend, Dwight Yorke was praising Kyogo Furuhashi ahead of this week’s Scottish Cup Final against Inverness Caley Thistle.
The ex-Trinidad and Tobago striker says he’s been impressed with the Hoops striker and his goalscoring form and says he leads the Celtic line ‘extremely well’.
Yorke said [Glasgow Live], “I’ve been impressed with him, actually, to be quite honest. His movement has been great. You know, he’s scoring goals. He gets into the right position.
“Yeah, he’s a threat. And he’s, you know, when the more goals you score, as any centre forward, you get more confident in terms of what he’s done and how he goes about it. He deserves a lot of credit. Huge respect to him.
“He’s a little bit petite in terms of his size and leading the line. But his movements are good and that’s a plus as a striker because you need good movements if you have to be a number nine, and he seems to do that extremely well.”
Yorke knows a bit about being a striker himself. In 571 career appearances, he scored 180 goals. But it was his goalscoring exploits for Manchester United that put him on the world map.
Yorke reached legendary status at the Manchester giants after he helped them to an unprecedented English Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League treble in 1999.
He scored 29 goals in 51 appearances that season for United as they dominated almost every competition they entered. [Transfermarkt]
Kyogo will be aiming for a domestic treble himself this weekend where he will be hoping to add to his 33 goals across all competitions this season.
The Japanese striker has been in sensational form since joining Celtic. He has scored 53 goals so far in his Hoops career which is making the transfer fee of £4.5m that Ange Postecoglou paid for him look like an absolute bargain.
