Man United anticipate West Ham United hunt to sign Harry Maguire as Old Trafford exit news emerges

West Ham are set to reignite their interest in Manchester United defender Harry Maguire, according to EPSN.

The Hammers enquired about the availability of the England centre-back in January but were unable to strike a deal for the former Leicester City defender.

According to the ESPN report, Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag would like club captain Maguire to remain at Old Trafford.

However, the Dutchman is said to be open to the idea of letting Maguire depart if he wants assurances over more game time.

Maguire has a contract at United until 2025, plus a one-year extension option, so any club wanting to sign the 30-year-old will have to stump up a sizeable sum given the reported £80million fee it took to land him.

Maguire would be a great coup for ambitious Hammers

Harry Maguire is a player who has come under constant scrutiny for both Manchester United and England over the past two seasons.

At times the criticism has been understandable, but at others it does feel like there has been microscopic analysis of Maguire when it really has not been justified.

Maguire faces plenty of competition at Old Trafford with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof all contending for minutes.

And, truthfully, he does not always fit Ten Hag’s penchant for playing out of the back and defending with a high line.

But at West Ham, Maguire would play every week, offer leadership to a team hoping to break the upper echelons of the table, and get the minutes he will need to remain in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

The Hammers will have to open the chequebook to get a deal over the line, but with an expected windfall to come from the sale of Declan Rice, there could be money to spend in the upcoming transfer window.
