Manchester United dealt blow in pursuit of Premier League star

Manchester United will be hoping to complete a domestic cup double when they face rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final on Saturday. 

Erik ten Hag has already guided his side to a League Cup triumph during his debut season in charge of the club, but the Dutchman will be looking to add to that at Wembley on Saturday.

Former Ajax boss Ten Hag has been praised for the impact he has had on United so far, having qualified for next season’s Champions League after finishing third in the Premier League.

The Red Devils look set to be busy during the upcoming transfer window, with several names being linked with a move to Old Trafford.

One of the players most heavily linked with United has been Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, but it appears that the Englishman may prove tricky to lure away from north London.

As per Football Insider, United are not confident of agreeing a deal to sign the England captain this summer, despite their interest.

Kane is a target for Manchester United this summer

The report claims that the Manchester outfit believe negotiations could prove difficult and be prolonged beyond the end of the upcoming summer transfer window.

United are desperate to sign a new striker this summer as they look to permanently replace Cristiano Ronaldo, who departed the club back in November.

Wout Weghorst joined on loan from Burnley in January, but the Netherlands international failed to score a single league goal for United and is now expected to return to the Clarets.

Kane, 29, scored 30 goals in the Premier League this season and has also become both Spurs’ and England’s all-time top scorer in the past few months.

The Englishman attempted to leave Spurs two years ago when a move to Manchester City appeared to be on the cards, but the former Millwall loanee ultimately stayed put.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy faces a huge dilemma, though, as Kane’s contract with the club is set to expire next summer.

That means that, if Spurs do refuse to sell him this summer and the player refuses to sign a new contract, he could leave for free in 12 months.

Kane would also be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club in January, which will also concern Levy as the player has been linked with both Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.
